Changing my Air Conditioning Comprssor on my 80, I was told to change the Orifice filter as well, could any one tell where this is located, I know that it's in the line but not sure if it's on the hot side or the cold side.

Thanks

Vette(s): 1975 C3 Red, T-Tops, Black Interior. All I need is time and money! Getting there!
It is actually where it switched from hi to low sides (hot to cold) That is what makes the pressure drop and the temp change. It is located in the line going into the evaporator dash unit. You can find a fitting in line and about 4 inches down line a small crimp. The orifice goes in at the fitting, and the crimp holds it in place. It should always be changed when doing A/C repairs. It has a screen filter that can clog. This makes a major difference in the A/C operation.

Ken, I have another question for you. Compressor and orifice are installed just waiting to install the correct size belt. I was wondering on how much oil is needed to be put back in the system, and what type is used. Is it true that the R12 Freon that the system requires has oil in it but probably not enough to lubricate the system/compressor. And where you you buy it, I have oil for a R134 system but not sure if that oil can be used with R12.

Thanks Again
Tom
