I use the prestone F&D kit it works the best in my opinion on all my cars, the problem is they only give you one hose fitting for each hose so if you have several cars you have to buy another kit......WRRONG!..... Napa sells the fittings, no need to buy another kit, as far as just running straight water  thats a no-no unless you put a bottle of prestone cooling system lubricant along with the water, without any rust inhibitors soon as the water gets in there the block and cooling system will begin  to rust, it doesn't take long, if the heater core is good I would hook up the hose's and flush everything, because I run a 30 /70 antifreeze to water mix because it cools better and I live in Calif, I also run a bottle of the Prestone cooling sys lube along with the antifreeze, my radiator still looks new inside. anips2009-07-31 13:54:39

I stopped at O'Reilly's on the way home from the office, and picked up a Prestone Kit. I'll flush it tomorrow and put in some antifreeze and some lube. I plan on taking my top heater hose loose and putting a short piece of hose on my water pump and the fitting in between, then removing it when I'm finished. I'm not going to leave it on permanently. Where should I flush the water out...no cap on the Radiator, should I pull the top Radiator hose off? I guess I hadn't noticed that you could still buy these things. I'm glad you mentioned the lube. I've never used it.

don't know, I sold my big block car, you can't pull the top hose cause the motor has to run during the flushing procedure, my guess is the exspansion tank, rusty water will stain your concrete drive and curb and gutter piss off the neighbors and will not come out, I know cause I'am a cement finisher by trade, I flush out the water on my property, by the photo of your car I see a nice big lawn or the planter, I also rigged up a graden hose to the exit spout and ran it out and over the fenders so as not to get rusty water all over the engine compartment and car  thrown by the fan, it might leak a little, wrap a towel around the exspansion tank and have some extras, the water doesn't exit at high pressure, more like one turn on the hose bib, have fun.   anips2009-07-31 17:40:15

Well I got bored....the Wife had a little get together she had to go to and the son went camping so I decided to flush it tonight. Anips, I rolled it down to the gutter to flush it as not to stain the driveway...I'm glad you mentioned that. I rigged up a piece of plastic and let it run out of the overflow tank. Worked like a charm. Let it run for about 5 minutes and then started the Engine and let the water run for about another 5 minutes. The water was real clean so buttoned it all back up and added antifreeze. I'll pickup some of the cooling system lube tomorrow.

the cooling sys. lube is good stuff, it comes in about a 1/2 pt. yellow plastic bottle, you might need two, basicly its water soluable oil.

I picked up the lube today on a trip to Wal-Mart...put it in when I got home and I'm all done. Now it's on to the next project.
