Hi, Took the car down to the show last night and the temp gauge never moved, had been very eratic. Is there an easy test for the sending unit, like the fuel gauge? and I see some of the Vette dealers state the sending unit is "special" to corvettes ??? Working on a

If you unplug it, it should read cold. If you ground the lead, it should read hot. If it does this the problem is likely the sending unit. You could put a resistance in between the wire and ground, and get an inbetween reading, depending on the resistance.
Ive tried different sending units and have come to the same conclusion others have.....the stock electric temp gauge is approximate at best. Some better some worse. Sending units are not always the fix. Your temp may still be off.
My fix - I have mounted a second, mechanical temp gauge, against the fire wall. Sending unit is in a head port not in use. Accurate to the degree. I now know the exact temp. It also has become my benchmark for the stock temp gauge. With a little homework - comparing the two. I now know the temps for the different marks on my stock gauge. This wouldn't be acceptable for the 100% stock crowd, but a good fix for us that like to modify.

Try getting a replacement from http://www.lectriclimited.com/Their sender is advertised as being correct for the instrument. It worked in my case, but I also had the gauge calibrated to the sender by jason@vetteinstruments.com It now reads dead on.

Sorry guys, I shouldn't post so late at night while my mind is asleep. This one will work:
VetteInstruments@aol.com (Attn: Jason)
I'm afraid I can't say what he charges for just the temp gauge calibration, mine was done along with a tachometer repair and the costs were not broke down seperately. He's a real friendly guy, good to do business with and turned it around in good time.

it costs 40$ + return shipping for calibration and 20$ for a new sending unit.
