Mine is rusted. Mostly gone actually. Was hoping some insight could be provided on where to get a replacement core support, how much it should cost, how difficult the replacement is and what needs to be done to replace. Any other information that you think would be helpful is definitely appreciated!

Ray-I bought a core support from Bair's...I shopped around, and they had the lowest price I could find. Almost $100.00 lower than the big "E".
Removal is easy.just follow the path of the bolts on either side of the support, and she's out.
A little tip, when you're ready to change it, scuff down the useless black paint on the support, and spray it with a good rust-inhibiting coating. I used "POR-15 Chassis Black" It looks great, has the same black tone as the stock black, and has the same rust stopping properties as regular POR-15, WHICH I SWEAR BY!!!!!
Good luck , and get it done before the really nice weather hits, so you can enjoy her.

I was thinking about having it powder-coated or some other rust protection. Hadn't thought about POR-15. I'll be able to use the extra POR-15 on the exhaust, which is rusted, not weak yet but its getting there!
I'm presuming I'll need to pull the radiator to remove the support. Is this correct?
I'll not be driving the car this summer, taking summer classes 250miles from the car and I can't afford to insure it here. Soo...no car. Oh well.

Yep-pull the radiator out first. Powder coating is an excellent idea also, I just bought the home model from Eastwood, and I've been going nuts with it. Try the new reflective chrome on a tranny bellhousing. MAAN it's nuts. Sorry- zooming off on a tangent...
My vette is also down, she's off the frame right now, and I'm going nuts thinking about not driving her this summer. Oh well, that's why God made motorcycles.
Good luck, man. Let me know how it comes out.
Also, it's a good idea to get a new radiator seal kit, while you're down there. I bought a great kit from Dr. Rebuild.

Where is the radiator seal kit for? I'm not near my car anymore so I can't poke around and look, but I remember there being a long strip of rubber ahead of and below the radiator somewhere that was falling out and not really doing its "job" anymore. That the radiator seal?

Side note discussion - they make a home powder coating machine?! That sounds too cool to pass up! How's it work and what colours do I get!?

Scott-yep, thats the seal I was talking about. When that seal goes kaput on you, your cooling efficiency is greatly reduced.
Eastwood Products makes a home powder coating kit, for about $100.00, it's an awesome addition for gearheads like us. The only other thing you need is an ELECTRIC oven for use with the curing process. Apparently, a gas oven will make the powder go BOOM!!! I found one at my local scrap yard guy.
You can get almost any color imaginable from Eastwood.
Check out their website.

Alright Gribble...you're in trouble now...this stuff looks too cool!!! Can it be used on larger items? Obviously only metal, but how about intake/carb? (I always wanted the engine bay to be white and match the car....OOOOO but so hard to keep nice) Valve covers seem obviously do able but Alternator and A/C? Seems like it would all be a bad idea.
Thoughts guys?

Scott-yep- you can do the alternator, and any other metal item that won't melt in the curing process. The only bitch is, that you have to smooth the metal before you powder coat it. Oh well, now that I've created this much work for you, what's a little more?
A white enging compartment sounds awesome, I'm going to be doing mine in black, to match the body. I know that the POR-15 company makes colored engine enamel, I bought some in black, I really don't know if they have it in white, but if you do a search, maybe you'll find it. Let me find my catalog, and I'll check for you. They guarantee for it not to chip or discolor, and I trust their products.
I do know that powder coatings are heat-resistant, I've seen powder coated brake calipers, and other high heat items before. I don't think it will survive on an exhaust, that's where ceramic comes in for me.
Glad to hear you're happy with your new toy. Have fun.

White body on the car....white engine compartment, gold pinstriping, was thinking of pinstripes around the valve covers and the air cleaner! OOOOO
Paint the pulleys and the fan....Got new headers on there that are silver ceramic coated, but its kinda whitish silver so it would definitely fit in!
