I'm having a difficult time trying to assemble all new hoses that go into the water heat valave and then into the heater core. i have a 71 LS5 454 with AC (C60).
HC=heater core
HCV=heater control valve
I have all new hoses and want to get this right before cutting.
I've attached a scan of the factory assembly manual C60 D6 sheet.
Large Water Pump/6 goes to the 90 degree fitting under expansion tank. That's clear in View B.
Med Intake hose/4 (slightly shaded) looks like it goes directly to HC (left pipe in pic).
The return line from HC looks to go into HCV.
I would think the intake/4 line goes into the bottom expansion tank (straight up med nipple), then to the HCV, then out to the HC. But I suppose the HC has to return the coolant somehwher, too.
I'm at a loss because when I went to "freshen" all my vacuum lines, the HCV was bypassed/disconnected- weird, I still had heat and I checked the valve it was good (pressure-wise).
The behind-the-gill area is small and hard to get to, so when I went to fix things, I swapped everything out so I'll never have to do it again. Replacing the wiper air valve and HCV with all lines and hoses.
Can anyone make out or explain the routing of big block AC heater hoses?this dia

Here's how I think it should go:
L Intake/6 to 90 bottom expansion tank (to fill tank up).
Straight med nipple in bottom expansion tank goes down to HCV (which limits the flow).
Then out from HCV to HC (med pipe).
Then what about the other HC pipe?
Am I wrong to think that one of these lines would go staright to the HC?
I bought OEM style repo hoses, you would think they would be pre-cut or in a couple pieces instead of having to slice and dice them new.
Looks to me and hope some can check their rig
water pump to 90 Streight to heater core heater core to valve valve to manifold. rad overflow to tank tank overboard
It's clear the WP/6 hose goes to 90 degree bottom expansion tank (clamped).
It's also clear that hose 1 goes straight down from exp tank to HC.
Hose intake/4 might go directly to HCV (cut) then into HC (makes sense, limiting flow).
Would anyone agree on this?
