hey guys have any of you all out there evry installed electric fans on your cars and if so how well did they work i live in dallas and as we all know it get hot here and i just put a new 383 in my car and well i had to repo the car from the guys that were doing the work the quality was not there and i felt that i could do a better job than what i was paying them to do any how another story i bought a fan kit that they recomened to me a dual 11 fan kit from dewitts and after the car was started for the first time and we made some test runs on the car not long runs 10-15 min runs(shake down runs) everything seemed fine then after a run one time i noticed the temp getting to around 275 then all of a sudden the temp droped to like 190 real fast then it would slowly creep up there then do the same thing drop back to normal level i pulled over to see if the  fans were running while the engine was hot and i do believe the fans were cycling oh yea i forgot to tell you that the engine has a 180 deg stat in it and the temp switch is a 195 deg on and a 175 deg off my question to you all is in the past i all ways thought that one fan should come on when the ac is turned on the the other one comes on when the engine gets up to temp or both should cycle when the engine gets to temp that the fans are called for no matter if the ac is on or not dewitts said there is another relay i could buy it make (BOTH) fans run when the ac is called for not just one fan is there a way to wire the fans like that because here id dallas in the summer it is just to bloody hot not to run the ac and if the fans are not running i dont want the head pressure to climb to much on the ac and it might be a mute point in the summer time the engine should get to temp pretty quick ps where would you mount the temp sending unit for the fans in the water jacket of the block,or in the thermostat housing, or mount a bung in the tank of the raditor i did find out that the other so called experts only filled the colling systen with water and i am not even for sure they got it completly full maybe the cause of the temp gage fluxcationit it was in a pocket of air around the temp sensor???????????any thoughts would greatley be help full i just dont want a car that over heats and be harmfull to the engine

I run a DeWitt with dual fans in the desert with A/C and have no problems. Have the GMPP 350HO. Sounds like either you have a sticky Tstat or air in the system. I drill a 1/8" hole in the flange of the Tstat that helps with the air bleeding process. If I am running around town and want A/C I have a manual toggle switch that I turn the fans on with. On the freeway I don't worry about. Also make sure you seal the radiator to the radiator bulkhead with rubber seals. This will help keep cooling air from bypassing the radiator. I have only one temp switch in the radiator that triggers the fan relays.

cool thanks a lot for the help i think a fan toggle is the way to go for sure and i have seen that big gap between the raditors and the support brackets and i was thinking of fabrication of a cover to close that up to make sure the air goes threw the radiator but for sure i think a toggle switch is the way to go thanx

My set up is the same as Glen's, except I use the sensor at the R. raer of the engine.

Im also running the dewitts radiator and dual spal setup. My 383 is bored .040 and I dont have AC on the car. My thermostat is a 180* and my switch is a 195 on and 180 off. I kept my temp switch location in the head and have both fans hooked up to that one switch. Thats seems to work out very well. I also ran a ground wire into the circuit so I could use an override if needed. Just a few things to check: make sure that the fans are pulling air thru the radiator and not blowing air the wrong direction, Also if you run a switch in the radiator make sure you ground the radiator so the switch can ground. You could run both fans with the AC on if you wire it that way, however you should be fine with one for the AC and the other for the coolant temp. Best of luck,
