Please let me try again. I'm a new guy and entered my question in the wrong place and it kind of got buried! My 79 L82 4speed that I purchased in 1984 has some items that I have always wondered about. The front spoiler(air dam) has a rubber extension on it. This appears to be a professional looking addition that I have only NOTICED on one other 79. I also have an electric fan in addition to the motor drived one and a trap door flap on the bottom of the fan shroud. The car is a very late 79(built in the last 3 weeks of production) . I have noticed that the door strike bolts are dated 1980. Is the electric fan and associated modifications a 1980 thing or a L82 4speed thing? Neither 1978 L82 auto that I own are setup like this. I did find some minimal mention of an auxiliary fan in the 79 service manual. Answers?? thanks. Mike

Hi Mike,
Welcome to the forum.. The L82 came with the auxliary electric fan.The trap door in the fan shroud opens to allow more air flow in the engine bay..The front and rear spoilers were an option..It would have been great if they would have had the auxliary fan in the L48 too..
I know in 81 it was standard not to sure about 80..

Mine is an 80-l-48 and it has the aux. fan. I have it hooked to a manual switch inside , so that if my temp guage go's up i can control the high temp. Automatic switch for the extra fan is suposed to turn it on when the temp gets to a certain degree...Mine failed to many times. So thats why i have a manual switch!

Was 79 the first year for the auxiliary fan? None on the 78's. The front spoiler isn't the pace car one, it's the stock ABS plastic with the rubber extensions on it. Aftermarket? Mike

I finally found my answer! Starting with the 79 and I think including the 80 (the last 2 years of the L82), L82/AIR CONDITIONED vettes were equipted with the electric fan and I'm assuming the associated modifications(trap door shroud, rubber extensions on front air dam on the 79). Now I'm curious about other reports of electric fans. What other applications were there? Found this in the GM Restoration Package. Is that a deal? Free Corvette stuff from GM! If you haven't called for the package, do it! If you have multiple years, get one for each year. Mike
