I have a plastic container that catches the overflow for the radiator. I think it was just and old windshield washer bottle.
I am wanting to use the original equipment which was the metal expansion tank. However I don't understand the process. What are the two lower fittings ln the expansion tank for? Where do they go?and at least one top fitting hose goes to the radiator overflow where does the other top hose or fitting go, is this just another overflow.

Expansion tanks are something that you may or may not have on your car..if you are trying to be car correct check to see if your car came with one..if you don't care then remove the milk jug and run a little hose off the rad near the cap to the ground..that's how mine is and should be..not sure on the 68..I do like the look of the tank though..so if you do want to put one in it just goes in the heater core lines if I remember right..

The tank did not come with the 427 that was the original engine I had. Since the engine was replaced with a 350 I thought maybe it would look better going with the small block expansion tank. My heater hoses now come off the water pump and go to the heater core and have a shut off for summer driving. Just was wondering on the correct set up for the expansion tank.
By all means then pop one in..they do look great and I have seen many used ones and they do make new ones as well..not sure if they make chrome ones but I do know they are aluminum..awesome!

On this tank, the two lower fittings would be tied into one of the heater hoses. The upper fitting on the neck would have a hose going to the ground, and the other fitting would have the hose coming from the radiator.

I guess then it would be the incoming heater hose rather than the return Right? Where as the hose from the water pump will go to the expansion tank and then continue onto the heater core. Thanks that will give me some insight into how it works.. It just beats the ugly jug I have now
