I did a boo-boo today. While trying to change my thermostat, I snapped the bolt head on the driver's side of the gooseneck. Does anyone know FOR SURE if the gooseneck is threaded on the drivers side or is it a 'smooth' channel that the bolt slides through and the bolt only threads into the intake manifold? I am just trying to figure out if I have to use an easy out on the bolt or if I just have to keep playing around with the gooseneck to get it to lift up and clear the remainder of the bolt. ( right now, I can not budge it ).

Hi There Old Buddy |wavey| - you know what I would do ?? I would take a hammer and |hammer| the livin' sh _ _ out of it. Seriously though, |headscratch| I don't think that gooseneck is threaded ... the bolts should fasten the gooseneck by clinching it down. Have you removed the other bolt yet ?? |idea| If that one is not threaded into the gooseneck, then neither of them is. |thumb|

Hey Glenn ,,,,,,,, it is not threaded , you have good case of electrolysis . Use neversieze when reassembling the unit as it acts as an anode to prevent corrosion . If you have problems and must remove the manifold give a call and I will dispatch the nasty critter for ya . It will cost you a good micro brew !!! Ah luv dat sam adams guy ,,,,,,,

Smooth bore. Sounds like torch time |bouncy| . I've used my propane torch lots of time to expand a piece to get it to slide apart. I'd get it hot and melt a little wax on to the broken stud area and see if it comes apart. You may need to smack |hammer| it with rubber malet to get it to come loose. Just remember to where a pair of gloves when trying to remove that heated water neck |thumb|

Oh my gosh, smacking it, heating it, hitting it with a hammer, hot waxing it, nasty critters, this has got to be my true calling. Let me back at it |biggrin|
BTW, the other side is a stud, not a bolt ???

Hi glenns
Use a hammer and screwdriver to pop off the thermostat
housing. the gasket is probably just stuck on with
gasket sealer. I use Permatex Form a gasket-old school
but it will never leak. If you just snaped off the
bolt head and there is still a stud left use Vice grips,
Some good penetrating oil (PB blaster is good) and heat
if needed. If you have an aluminium manifold be careful
not to tear the threads out of the manifold!

Well, I huffed and I puffed, I hit it, I twisted it, I even yelled and screamed at it. I did everything but get 4Webbers to unleash the nasty critter. In the end, I used a 3 inch cut off wheel and a LARGE hammer and chisel. Results, one REALLY mangled gooseneck. But it IS off |biggrin|
