Can anyone offer assistance: I am replacing the heater core on my SB 73 with factory A/c.
Do I have to disconnect the condenser lines?
Can I split the heater/condenser box, or do I have to remove the entire box from the firewall in the engine compartment?
Any help would be appreciated.

Im trying to remove heater core. I somehow was sidetracked while cleaning engine bay...so the question is, is it easier to remove center cluster like they did here and get to it from inside or can a core be removed from fire wall if engine is out???

I'm not 100% sure, maybe someone that knows for sure can chime in, but I don't think you can remove the heater core from the engine side.

Well I got it, there were 2 problems. There was a hidden bolt I didnt see on the fire wall and the rubber hoses were stuck on to the heater core piece on the fire wall side. I could not get them off, so I had to cut the hose thus leaving 2 pieces of hose that got stuck not allowing me to pull through...so I cut the copper from the inside with my wonderfull handy air cutter and out she came....since the car had not run for 14 years and the radiator was rotten I assumed the heater core would be too...well it was in great shape, except for the two cuts through the copper pipe!!!!
However, I was able to get rid of several dirt wasp nest in my air duct system...I sure hope I can put all back togeter some day!

A word to the wise

While you have it all apart now is a good time to replace the core. The old one may look O.K., but 14 years (or who really knows its age) could be hiding lots of internal corrosion.
Good luck

I second that!!
Had lots of trouble finding a new replacement core for my 72 W/AC...I actually had several on the bench and none of them fit correctly. I eventually sent them back, cleaned up the old one ( was replaced at some point...I did it ), and had it tested before I put it back in.
So, where do you guys find a quality core that fits???
