I checked my factory heater hose shutoff valve and it seems to be working,but its only installed in the inlet heater hose.Is this why you are all installing shutoff valves in the inlet and outlet heater hoses,my vent air and A/C air are still warm,I found my vent opens and closes as it should to block off outside air. It was only 67F here yesterday and the vent air was still warm.Gunna be a hot trip to CC.Help.............

Todd,
If you don't have a shutoff on BOTH hoses the heater core always has hot water in it. That heat migrates into the cabin even if the heater and fan are not on. It really makes an appreciable difference. Also if there are any openings in the firewall a lot of engine heat enters the cabin. Insulating below the carpet also helps. NAPA has the valve you need, on is 5/8" and the other is 3/4".

Have you checked the bleed air pressure to the packs?

Mike I'd use one of my standard answers to pilots,

1.there all like that
2.thats just residual fluid, we where working in there.
3.thats not fuel.they deiced at the last station.
4.and my favorite"Could not duplicate"

That's funny.  They must be on the A&P written test.  I've heard them all before.

Seriously though,  I'm curious to see how the extra valve works.

I went the cheap and easy way,went to Baxters auto parts and bought 1 5/16" rubber cap and 1 3/4" cap and pulled both hoses off the water pump,ty wrapped them out of the way and installed caps on water pump,cost-4.00,install time 10 min.Call me 4 questions.360-253-0015

Todd,
I would be interesed in a post maintenance report. Let us know if you see any temperature increase the water temperature guage and if you feel a decrease in cabin temperature.

Also, my favorite response to a post flight squawk:
Complaint: Starboard engine seems to be "missing" at cruise rpm

A&P response: Upon inspection of aircraft, starboard engine is not missing, it is on the starboard wing.

I did the same thing to mine.  Thanks, Todd, for the parts!!  Made a huge difference in keeping the corkpit cool.  Our A/C ran so so (it's high on the list now) but it was bearable.  I also plan on finding the valves at NAPA, as well as tracking down the vacuum that controls the factory valve.

Capping the in/out at the block and water pump appeared to make no difference in operating temps.  The overheating problem we had was coincidental.  Just make sure the water bottle siphon hose is in place.

P.S. another favorite squawk:  Engines 1,3,&4 lack normal oil leakage.
