Vette(s): 1979 Black coupe. 11256 original, documented, miles on it when I bought it in April of 2000. It now has 13100 on it. Oyster interior, like new. Everything original, everything works, except the clock. Paint has a couple of minor flaws.
A short time ago, someone had a posting about a set of valves that were available for the heater hoses. I think they were $14, or something close to that. Does anyone remember this , or am I dreaming?

Hello Ronald,
Just wondering where you installed the water valves. Adam's setup shows only one valve so I was wondering if two work better, or is setup required because of your hose routing from the water pump.

Hello all,
All that you need is one valve to stop the incidious heat at the feet problem. The reason is that the flowing hot water has a higher temperature upon exit of the heater core than the ambient air. This causes the heat to radiate into the heater system. Once you stop the flow of water to the core, all that you get for heat is called ghosting or ghost flow. There are not enough BTUs in the ghost heat to over come the change of temp in the core. At best it will be no more than 1 or 2 degrees above ambient.
Back to the original question. You should open the valve periodically to move fresher coolant through the core. This will prevent corrosion in the core.
The valve can also be found at your local NAPA. I spent a few minutes with a good parts man (someone who understands the books, not just the computer) and we found one in stock at the warehouse. Someday, I am going to find a valve that is vacuum operated that opens automatically when heat/defrost is selected. I know such a thing exists, as at one time I had one from a car I used for a donor on a streetrod. Any suggestions?
