Pull the carpet back, and stick a fan in there. Then you need to correct the core leakage problem. It will only get worse...

The core had a leak but it was in the engine compartment.I added some bars leak and it solved the problem for a year.I didn't notice the inside leak because I have two mats down there and I never ride in that side.I was out sun. doing a good vacume job and noticed it.I went over it with some of my cleaning stuff in hopes of finding something that will counteract the antifreeze.Ive got 99% of i dryed up put there is still some greasy film on it.The carpet is mint.Lucky I've bought a carpet kit last year and haven't used it yet.I used a heat gun very carefully so as not to melt the carpet.I just looking for some kind of cleaning agent that will get rid of the greasy film. The other day I used the heater and I did not get the
'smell" that we all know so well, so I don't know how long this has been there. There is no damage to the color of the carpet.I just need a neautral cleaning agent that will take off the slime.I'm 99% positive my core needs replaceing, luckly I live where I can get buy without it but it just bugs me when things don't work.
ranger3; what clamp are you talking about?Iv'e got the feeling that I'm going to bypass this until I can get it reparied.I seen how these are done and I'm not to sure I want to take this on myself.I just replaced the core in the 86 f150 and that was easier that doing a tune up on a 69 Camaro.Well I think the Vette will be much harder than the F150. I just
replaced the core in my 89 F150, it's probably the easiest repair I've
ever done on any vehicle. The clamps I mentioned are where the heater
hoses mate to the core. Since you used a sealant I guess the problem
has been present for a while. If you decide to tackle the job yourself,
I live about 100 miles south in Charleston. If you do it on a weekend I
would be glad to help out.

ranger3,THANKS for the offer.Do we have to take off the front fender?Remember this is on an 82 Collector Editiion. Not sure if that has anything to do with it or not.Anyway,I'd love to have the help.Weekend works for me!! I've been to your town and made sure I went to see the Hunley.Don't know if you've been to Savannah but they look the same!!I live on one of the barrier Islands.Let me know what kinds of tools I'll need.I've more than likely got that covered.Where should I get my replacement core?I was thinking NAPA.If you have a better place let me know.I don't want to change one again in a couple of yrs.

Yea Gator,
I used to fly powerline patrol for Georgia Power. I used to spend a fair amount of time in Savannah and Tybee Island. I really do like your town.
As far as the core, I would ask some more opinions. If you are going to keep the car, I would go for the best whatever that is. Ask some more of these folks here about the procedure. I did one in a 76 and it was a real pain but did not require the removal of any body parts other than the hood and that was optional.

I thought I posted a response, where did it go.Anyway Scott you are scaring me about taking off the hood. Also I pm'd Joel about where to get a good HC.I'm a little guy 5'5" so I can do the tight spots, might want to take out the seat.Thats what I do when I work on the Z/28.Maybe with the hood off I can get a better look as to why my headlights won't go up but will go down.
