I've had all kinds of old GM cars and ALL of them have the same problem in that the low and med speed will not work.I've een told that the resistor blower is more than likley the prob.I went and got a new one and have a 82 vette chop manual.I can find out where it is but I need a more detailed picture of it.It looks like my old retistor is attached by maybe rivits to the bracket. The china made one I got does not have the bracket(not susprized!)can anybody post a link or explain how I should do this.It could also be the wrong piece I'm looking at.It is attached to a plastic box thing that it attached to the fire wall. This is on my 82CE.If i'm at the right place I think I will have to go with an AC Delco piece because the attachment bracket is part of the relay.Thanks.Also if their might be another reason that I have no low/med speed let me know. One more thing,is this a fix that requires me to disconnect my battery? The brand name of the relay is Sorensen if that matters.zgator38563.583900463

The 'resistor' is screwed into the A/C housing, pass. side, usually on the top side. I think what you bought may be the high-speed blower relay, which is normally screwed onto the side of the A/C box. It has a metal 'can' on it, but some replacements are plastic.
The resistor you need is not an external component. It fits down inside of the box(plenum), and the connector comes down on it from the top side. It should be on the far pass. side of the plenum, held in by two 1/4" or 5/16" hex-head screws. The base of this resistor is usually a really thick "cardboard" looking type of matierial. It will be flush with the surface of the plenum, with only the terminals sticking out of the box(with it unplugged).
When you take it out and look at it, it looks like 3 coiled piggy tails, each a different size. Chances are one or two of the "piggy tails" are broken, or severely corroded.
Does the box for the part you bought say "Relay", or "Resistor"? You need a resistor, not the relay. The relay only controls the high-speed function of the blower. Hope this helps some.

Can I get this resitor at one of the auto parts stores(Auto zone ect)?Is it the same for all GM cars (82)What I mean, if I ask for one for an Impala insted of a Corvette would I get the same part.It seems that if you say Corvette the price can sometimes be more money for the same part zgator38564.2947569444

Not sure about that one! You might need to take the resistor with you, and ask for one for a Camaro or something. It's worth a shot!

Here's one I found @ Paragon. It's for a non-A/C car, but it shows what the part looks like, and it's possible they have them for A/C cars. Worth a call!
(Also, Zip has weird stuff like this, too.)

Blower resistor-Paragon

I know what ya mean about the fart-can & neon.....it's hard to find a parts place that actually sells car parts! Adams' Apple38564.7982291667

Get a Dr. Rebuild catalog, Page 54, number I, $17.50 for the resistor. Get the gasket too.

Have a great day!
