Vette(s): 1982 C3 Collectors Edition 44000 miles, sat in the sun most of its life, My wife purchased it for me for Father's Day in 2007 from her girlfriend that had it for 19 years. It is on the road again. I'm retired but it is now my daily driver.
This is the info you need on the shut-off valves. Just
one does not help as much as the two because the heat migrates up the water in
the open hose. You only need to close them in the spring and then open
them in the fall, not much trouble at all.
I
put mine so you can get at both from the engine compartment.
Part
numbers for the valves at NAPA:
3/4
inch 660-1413
5/8
inch 660-1414

Vette(s): 1974 coupe. 350 CID with Turbo 400 trans. Decal says 8.5:1 compression. Needs paint and AC replaced but don't plan on full restoration. Car runs strong. No big problems so far. 67,000 miles on Odometer, probably rolled over
Thanks for the info on the shut-offs. I will pick them up today . That's a good tip. I am still going to put the heat shield insulation under the carpet. And maybe the firewall.
I still want to replace the air but if everyone has failures with the OEM equipment I think it best to upgrade to a newer compressor. I wonder what all you need to change to do that. Brackets, etc. I have to replace it all anyway so might as well upgrade.

It has been over a year since I started. I had to quit the project so
the car just sat in the garage. I was able to get started again in May 2012. As of July 27 2012 I have done the fiberglass repairs and applied Slick Sand High Build Primer.

Some info! Purchased 3 months ago a new AC Delco compresser from, RIGHTNOW auto parts.com. Paid 190.80 with free shipping. Price at the Chevy dealer was 400.00. The compresser is the same size but the clutch head is smaller and more efficient. Must check all thread holes, as they are metric! Easy install, don't forget to add your oil before bolting your line on.
