I installed a new water pump, but it sounds like bad bearings when I turn on the AC. I replaced the pump, and the noise is the same. I noticed the AC drive belt vibrating too much at idle, so I tightened it more, but I think it is too tight.  It stopped some of the noise, but not all.  I tightened the alternator, too, but I don't want to add any more belt tension.  I am ruling out water pump bearings.  Thoughts?

Use a dowl rod, such as a long wooden stick.  Touch the rod to the alt, pump, etc, one at a time, and place  your ear on the side of the rod.  The noise will transfer up the you can hear the source when touching different things.    DON'T stick the end of the rod in your ear, just in case something bounces and shoves it into your ear.   If you can't pinpoint the noise, spray some water or WD40 on the belt and see if it goes away for a moment.    WD40 last longer than the water will, but still goes away fairly quickly.    Do not use belt dressing or any oil.

are sure it is not the AC clutch since you only have the noise with the AC on

Kenny made a good point. The harmonic balancer, when deteriorating, can slip into the timing cover and sound like anything and everything.

All the more reason to determine when the noise started.
The way I originally read it, the noise started after the WP install...but...what if the WP was replaced because of the noise, but the noise is still there?
More info is needed...
