Topic: Radiator Core Support
in Forum: C3 Cooling and Heating Systems
Has anyone replaced the radiator core support? I have all the bolts out and I'm trying to lift out the core support, radiator and shroud together due to the tight fit.
Thanks,
Brian

But really, if you're sure all the bolts/nuts/brackets are out, the core support should come out, also. Take the fan off(if you haven't already), take the top shroud off, then carefully pull the rad. out. Then the lower shroud will come out, giving you room to work with wranglin' the core support out.

Brian,
I'm in the process of taking mine out now that I pulled the engine (not that you need to go that far).
So far I have the hood, radiator, A/C condenser, & fan shroud out.
The 6 bolts are off of the sides of the core, but I have not gotten to the bolts out from under the car yet. I have been able to move it from side to side & I took out some of the upper shims.
I'm hoping to have it out some time this week. My recommendation would be to take the hood off, but don't try to do it alone, get a helper.
Good luck,
Anthony
By all means, take the hood off. Be sure to label the shims so you get them back in the right place.
Also, the bolts at the bottom of the support can be real boogers due to rust, be careful there.
Also keep in mind that the support not only holds the radiator in place, it also holds the front end up. Have something handy to support the body while the support is out.
On another note, the only reason to remove the support is to replace it or repair it. If you're doing it to simply remove the radiator, it won't make the job any easier.
