Vette(s): 1969 Corvette Stingray Convertible. Just bought it from my uncle who owned it since 1971. Fathom green, green interior. 350/300, T400.
OK, my weeks not going so good. Engine shop called and said my 72,000 original mile 350 has gouges in one of the cylinder walls and needs bored. While the engine was out I decided to get the radiator pressure checked, they just called back and said the radiator is junk and I need a new one, $272. I'm sure it won't look original, and I'm afraid about how it will fit. I was looking in the catalogs, OEM over $600! Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks as always,
Matt

Do you have a radiator shop around your area? If so, have them take a look at it and see if they can re-core it. I had mine re-cored a couple years ago for about a $100. No problems what so ever.

$272 sounds awful cheap for a new radiator! I had mine re-cored with closer fin spacing, it's a 4 core and re used the tanks for appearances. Still cost me almost $400 with shipping.

I just put a new Modine in my 87 and dropped the temp from about 220 to 190. I bought it from NAPA for about $150.
Bad news, after replacing the radiator and sealing the coolant leaks my water pump gave up.....A much bigger job than changing the radiator.

We need more pressure Scotty!
Cant handle this extra pressure Captain, I think she'll blow any minute! |eek|

I just talked with the shop that has the radiator, he said he could recore it for $300, he just figured I'd rather have a repo! There's another small shop across town that I'm going to check with.

Disregard last message, I somehow missed that part about you wanting it to look original.
I guess I'll worry about looking original when I get a cherry Blue Flame car. For now function/cost first at my house.

Contact Dewitts. They manufacture the exact core for $249.00. Sould cost about $125.00 to have a good shop put the new core in. While it is being done have them repair any dents in your original tanks.

Only Dewitts has the correct hat section that you see from the top with the rectangular cut outs. The cores the shops typically use have a round top that is obvious if you are looking for originality. The DeWitt unit is identical to original and DeWitts is great to work with.
