Has anyone removed the A/C from a late model shark? Mine's an 81 and the A/C hasn't worked since I've owned the car. I live in northern Michigan, so A/C isn't something folks here use a whole lot anyway. I'd like to remove it completely in the interest of weight loss and uncluttering the engine bay. My question is - can I use the box that covers the heater core from an earlier non-A/C car when I'm done?

Sorry Jim, i'm in the older cars so i can't help you with those boxes.

I can give you a tip for uncluttering the engine bay : start your engine and remove all things you see with bolts on it as long the engine goes on.If not , reinstall last item and continue. You will be amesed  ( emaised??) how much junk they install to rectify the price !

sorry guys , joke. and NOT blond !

see you!

Jim, the heater core should be on the inside of the car, anyway, so really, all you would need to remove would be the A/C "box" on the firewall, and then cover the hole left. The non-A/C cars did not have the holes for the A/C system on the firewall. You can also remove the condenser from in front of the radiator(if it's still there!), and get a little more weight out.

And don't drive out to california in summer, especially via Arizona. Why..... you could sweat your wrists off.aceinthehole4938778.8996990741

Thanks for the info. I'll have the radiator out this weekend as well so I can remove the condensor then. Good advice re: Arizona, too. My niece lives in Phoenix - It's hard to understand her when she calls in the summer. I guess it's hard to hug an air conditioner and talk on the phone at the same time.
