Hi All, thought I would share this winSmile I had today trying to decrease the burning heat coming in  to the cabin.

I first diconnected the heater completly from the engine to see if there was hot water still running thru the heater core, this made little or no dfferenceCry.

Next step was to source the hot air which had to be coming in from the engine bay, the only place I could see was it had to be getting past the rubber seal on the hood.

The rubber looked like the origanal and was hard as rock and not flexible at all, the replacement rubber does not look long enough to go down the sid far enough to do any good.

I went to a local store that sells anything to do with rubber products and after market seals. I found a self adhesive foam made from EPDM rubber which is 18mm x 18mm square for AU$10.95 per metre.
I bought 3 Metres, took off the old rubber cleaned up the surface on the hood and attached the new foam. I put this all the way down both sides of the hood(the origanal only went down about one third of the way) and around the top to try and get a better seal and stop the hot air from getting out from the engine bay.

I went for a drive to see if this had made any difference and the result was amazing, the only heat was from the outside air, we had 32 deg Celcius pretty hot, there was no were near the heat that was coming in to the car beforeClap. I coould now put my bare feet up under he dash for the first time
When I came back and lifted the hood I can see were the rim from the gaurd has gone in to the foam all the way roud and down the sides giving a good seal and stopping the HOT air from escaping the engine bay and getting in to the 2 side vents.

Hope this info helps with others trying to reduce the heat, it seems to has stopped my problem.

Regards

Andy

Thanks Andy, I think most of us probably suffer from this dilemma. Definately worth the effort.

Heh Andy good find, I did not think that would have made a difference. I was just thinkin the other day that it's your summer down under.

Now there is no excuse to get some shots of that Vette down on the beach. Find some freinds in some WW's to pose with that C3Wink

Can't believe I'm reading a post about heat when there is snow on the ground and I'm wondering about how to get more heat into the vehicle right now!

But a few months from now I will think about this post and wonder how I can reduce the heat inside my vehicle.

Do you have any photos that can detail what you did?

Vette(s): 1976 Stingray matching numbers. Stock 350 rebuilt, comp cam, roller rockers, push rods, 2.02 valves, +.30 flat tops, frontend & suspension rebuilt Dec 08. Interior from firewall 90% July. New exhaust, Collector plates, Paint will have to wait...& wait.
Very interesting, some pictures would be great. I have added pro-form 350 heat/noise barrier on the complete inside floor and firewall of my 76 and am in the process of doing the same on the underside in the transmission tunnel and lower firewall. Will keep working on the sound and heat barriers, love my C 3 for what she is:):):) but it is always good to look at the options. Thanks, Happy C 3ing in Australia. Eric...

Very interesting approach to solving this issue.  I've never heard of anyone doing this before, it's always been heat reflection material under the carpet for an answer (mixed results).  Good job!
