Vette(s): 1982 C3 Collectors Edition 44000 miles, sat in the sun most of its life, My wife purchased it for me for Father's Day in 2007 from her girlfriend that had it for 19 years. It is on the road again. I'm retired but it is now my daily driver.
I heard a couple of times that when you replace your Temperature Sensor make sure to get a two wire and not the single wire one. My 1982 has a two wire on it currently. If I'm not mistaken it would have had a single wire from the factory. Now it looks like I need to replace it. But the only ones I come up with are the single wire ones except from Amazon which has a two wire Borg Warner WT3000 for $9.50. (Found it using the Registry Shop drop down). It is listed for 1981 and 1985 following part number replacements OE #s 8313450, 8983502327, 10045847, 12146312,
15326386, 25036708, 25036979, 25037182, 8-12146-312-0, 8-12146-312-1, 8-25036-979-0.
By the way I'm looking at replacing it because my Vette never gets hotter than about 200 most of the time it runs in the low 190's. I'm running a new radiator that I had a third core put in so it has greater than normal cooling capacity.
I would like to have it on hand when I pull the other one off. Can anyone help confirm what I can use?

Forgot to provide the reason I'm looking at the temp. I cannot seem to get my idle down below 750. It had a 168 degree thermostat in it and then it never got above the 180's and never would go into closed loop. Changing the thermostat elevated the temperature and help the idle got it down from 1000 to 750. I have balanced the TB's checked for vacuum leaks did not find any. I know I have some in the headlight system because I cannot close or open them after I turn the car off. Not sure if that system is isolated from the vacuum that feeds the computer.

When the engine is not running you should not be able to open the headlight doors !! Or close them either !! I am not sure what Sensor you need!!

The only listings I can find say you need a one blade sender. Are there two wires on the plug? If so, the standard GM two wire sender is pretty universal.

Thanks Larry. Someone in the past must have changed it to two wires. Because that is all I have found also. There was a couple of articles I have read somewhere in the past that stated that if you replace the sender convert to a two wire one for more reliability and less issue with grounding. Do not know if I agree with that but I'm not going for completely original anyway so I will stay with the two wire.
On the second side issue with being able to open or close your lights just after you shut your engine down should you be able to do that. I know that it will leak down after a short while?

If your vacuum system is in perfect condition, there will be enough vacuum to close the lights immediately after you shut off the engine. But is very rare to have a perfect system, so basically the answer is no.
