I own a 78 vette that's so hot inside you can't drive it more than an hour before your feet are roasted. This isn't just heat through the floor, you can feel the heat blowing in the area between the floor and the dash. I have rerouted the heater lines to make sure I am not getting heat off the heater core.

Does anyone have any ideas how or where to look for probable firewall leaks. I have tried a quartz light in the engine compartment, but no light shows through. I have found a small leak around the stearing rod, but it is not very large.

I can also be reached at hl@datasync.com.

I have posted this under general discussion and Interior.

There was a vacume operated valve midway between the engine and the heater core. I took the valve out and joined the out-engine to in-engine hoses together and the in-heater hose was joined to the heater core out hose.

Well that certainly will emove the possibility of core heat !! Get this car on a lift somewhere and check the lower firewall and floor for damage .

I got a response suggesting I may be missing a rubber seal around the hood. First of all--what seal? Second where would the air be coming in if the seal is missing?

I don't see how a missing seal around the hood would make the cabin hot. Sounds like bad advice to me.

Another thing you can do is buy heat shield to be installed under the carpet.

I've found that most of the heat in mine comes off of the sides of the transmission tunnel. Could someone have left the heatbarrier under the console and down the sides off?

I'll be doing a clutch replacement VERY soon and I noticed something in the parts books. There are two insullating devices in and around the transmission tunnel. The transmission tunnel insullator itself and a foam collar that mounts between the insullator and the bell housing. There are also insullating pieces that mount between the trans tunnel and the frame under your feet. I ordered all four peices of insullating material and plan on replacing them all, regardless of the condition of the ones that are already mounted. The four peices and all the mounting clips ran around $130.00 including shipping from Paragon.

The rubber seal on the hood (comes down on the bridge that seperates the wiper trough and the firewall) keeps hot engine air from being pulled into the wiper trough. The inlet to the cabin is behind the leaf screens on the passenger side. Hot air will be sucked down into this area. Check the operation of the door with the car running and the heat control turned on.
Hope that explains the hood seal......
Cheers!

My 75 was always Hot after the car heated up,you could fell hot air come thure the dash and other areas including the vents, and heres the kicker the heater hoses weren't even hooked up,the air was coming in from two areas mainly were the hoses went into the fire wall, there was a broken seal and the side of the fenders were they meet the inside,I call them finder skirts the culking had cxracked and falling out so the hot air was getting into the cab/dash ,so I would check all body seals/also in your wiper compartement there is a door for fresh air if your missing hood seals posible to come in there too.
