Vette(s): 1978 Silver Anniversary L82 4spd (M21) Red Leather. Pace Car is in the hands of a new caretaker.
Since I'm having similar problems with the heat and vent control lever in my '80, I'm all ears on this one.

Heres a tip for you guys that are trying to find Vac. leaks without havin to start the car or use a MitiVac,Wits End when I had to do the job I used an electric vacuum pump that I borrowed from a mech friend of mine, he used it to evacuate AC systems, I hooked the line from the pump to the engine side of the check valve and plugged it into a 110 outlet, it applied vacuum to my whole vacuum system, tank, head lite system, wiper door, heater and AC system, where ever there was vacuum, I disconnected the battery and I could operate the HL doors, wiper dr. heater AC control, etc as many times as I wanted,  I could listen for leaks under the dash, relays, actuvators, etc, I was lucky to have a friend who had one, to buy one is about $300., Harbor freight has one that produces 28.3" mercury at sea level for $14.99, Part #96677-7vga, its not electric you hook your air compressor hose to it, don't know how good it works, what the Censored check it owut. That's A helluva good idea-after I figure out where all the unhooked lines are supposed to go! LOL. I just bought it and the previous owner had the engine pulled out, bored and stroked into a 383 and I guess when he put the engine back in he didn't take the time to hook all the lines back up. There's even a three way plug on the manifold that has a piece of hose with a screw in it-that;s what I'm dealing with.

Brian, your story sounds so familar, my red vette came from a very dear friend of mine that passed away very fast from cancer. He had just had it stroked to a 383, I still find hoses and such unhooked under the hood. The nice thing is my find something cobbed up, look up over my shoulder and ask him why? why you gota mess with me?

That pump check sounds like the way to go. I know its a little tight under the dash so don't get stuck, be carefull for sharp edges also, even thou the blood will match the paint Big smile
These guys are really good at this stuff so ask away. Glad your enjoying the site and nice to have ya jump in chat last night!

Ok, I've rerouted almost all of the vacuum lines, checked check valves, basically tried everything and still no air to the vents. So, for now, I pulled the dash back apart, got down to the flap/door that diverts air from the heater vents to the dash vents and closed it manually and shot a small screw in the edge to hold it for now. A/C is coming out of the vents and/or defrost like a charm. It sucks having to do it this way but it's Really hot down here and A/C on my feet just didn't cut it. I'm ordering a complete climate control switch to see if that might help since the old one is ragged out and superglued anyway. Keep y'all updated.

Hope you guys have a great time in BG, I SO wanted to go, but now after a 2 month layoff they want me back to work on Aug. 31st through Sept 14th in the Yucatan. Maybe next time...sigh
