fIRST OF ALL PLEASE MOVE IF YOU HAVE TO:I have to put in a new waterpump. The shop manual verbege does not help. Can someone point me to some place that has a more detail pictures. The shop manual told me to move the Air compresser out of the way. Problem is there are bolts that I need to take out and some I don't. I know the fan has to go and the shroud(don't want to break it). I have an 82 if that helps. I can get the pump out I just need to get to it. Thank you.Geek

zgator,  I dont think you will have to REMOVE the A/C compressor, perhaps remove the belt and pivot it a little out of the way. In order to get to the pump you are going to need to remove the AIR pump and valving by disconnecting the hoses, not a difficult removal and then the bracket that holds the AIR pump will be easily removable. There are some steel inserts in the aluminum AIR pump bracket, dont loose them as the bracket comes loose.  This should give you plenty of room to get to the water pump.  If I remember correctly, I had remove the pully from the AIR pump in order to get to one of the mounting bolts, there are 3 bolts holding the pully to the AIR pump but they are not difficult to remove.  If the pully tries to turn while you are turning the bolts, pinch the belt to the pully and it should hold the pully to alloy you to remove them.  Once all this is out of the way, the pump is accessible....not easy but accessible.  I don't think you will need to remove the fan shroud.  There is one small hard vacuum line that attaches to the under side of the valve to the AIR pump, make a note of where it attaches before you remove it, as it is not visible once the AIR pump and valve are reattached on the car.  Taking a few digital pics before you start will help with the reassembly in case you forget where something goes.

Thanks for the info crossfire.I guess you should know if you have a crossfire also. I went to Advance and they had one for $29.00.It says for heat only. I've got ac but I beleive the air is connected to a junction. The pump had one hole for the hose and one hole that has threads in it and it comes with a plug. Is this the pump I want???

Your description of the pump sounds correct but Id take my old one with me or at least do a side by side comparison before I started to install just to be sure.  The plug will go in the top port and the hose will connect to the port just above the radiator intake hose.  You will need to either take the threaded nipple off of your old pump or get a new one.  The AIR pump bracket straddles the pipe nipple where the rubber heater hose attaches.  Good luck with the install Thumbs%20Up

Look to see if your original pump has any bosses for brackets on it, also. The replacement will need them if it does. Take the old one with you, as Chip says, to make sure they both match up in every way. Check the shaft sizes, where the pullies/fan go, as they do come in different diameters...

Well I drove it to work today, It's 18 mi and it didn't overheat. I'll find out how much leaked out whe I put some more in, I've filled it thorugh the overflow bottel. Is that the best way? that rad. cap is too hard ro get off.. I did but a new thermostat (190) is that right? I also got some hi temp porsilon (sp) paint.

At work I used very little, didn't have anything to measure. I dorve it home and put 2/3thirds of a cup in 18 miles.Does that still sounds like a waterpump?

Are you saying you're not sure if the wp is leaking or not?

Filling the system thru the overflow is the proper way to do it, once the rad. is full. If you drain the rad., then you should fill it thru the neck first, then top off thru the overflow.
If you are loosing coolant, but do not see any evidence of a leak, then you may have a bad head gasket that is blowing water out the tailpipe. I think I would suggest have someone do a pressure test on it, if you cannot locate an external leak visually. Check the pass. side floor carpet...you may have a heater core leak, and it wouldn't be visible from the outside of the car.
