Well I had the grinding noise on my car checked out at the local Corvette shop and they said it was the rear end. They won't know if the gear and pinion is bad until they open it up. Question, if they say it is okay should you still replace it? If so, what is the overall gear ratio you would recommend for an auomatic with a 300 hp car with headers? I don't really race just want a nice overall ratio. What manufacturers do you recommend for the pinion and gear? Any good places to pick up for a fair price? Thank you.

If you have noise from the rear it could be caused by bearings or gears. Most times its usually bearings that I have come across. You wont know the shape of the gears until you have the rear removed, same with the bearings. If it ends up being the bearings, then the gear replacement would be up to you. As for what ratio to go with it all depends on what your looking for. From reading posts here I would say a popular ratio is the 3:55. I run a set of 4:11 but I also have an overdrive trans which makes it great on highway runs. I wish I would have gone to 4:30 or 4:55 gears. The more gear you run the more gas you use, the more revs your engine has to make and many have let that help them make the decision. Not sure where your located but I do have a set of 3:55 here that are for sale. Let us know what you decide to go with. Best of Luck.

It would be good to know what ratio you have now. Do you presently feel like your engine is running at a very low, or a very high, rpm?
To check your rear end ratio: Get the back end up on jack stands with the rear wheels able to turn freely. Get underneath and chalk mark the bottom of the driveshaft, and the 6:00 position on the inside of the rear tires. Manually turn the driveshaft and count the shaft revolutions until the wheels make exactly 1 revolution. Then get back to us.

I am located in RI 02919. I wanted to buy the leaf spring bolts and trailing arm bushings from you, but you never followed up. How much do you want for the gears and what shape are they in? What shape is the 1974 differential with the 3.08 gears and how much is it?
I thought I responded to your question on pricing. Sorry If I missed that. I usually dont miss responding on this site. If it was on the other corvette site I dont check that one as often. I sent you a PM about the gears.
