Vette(s): 1981 Blue Ice Met. w/pearl ghost flames TKO500 5speed. LS1 Swap 3.45 Dana 44.
Muncie and Borg Warner 4 spds were used in Corvettes over the years.

You may want to consider a Tremec 5 speed conversion from Keisler or Classic 5 Speed if funds allow. The benefit of a Tremec 5 speed is having the overdrive gear for better fuel economy on long drives. These are pretty much bolt in kits. Next year I want to put one in mine if the "slush fund" is big enough.

I agree...go for the 5-speed if you can. I don't think you'll regret it.

Originally the '76 would have had a Borg Warner Super T-10. A Muncie M20/21/22 will bolt right in, as well.
As Darryl says, there are other alternatives, also.
