anyone know the size rear end for the 77? I'm swappin my differential to 3.93s just for fun, little more acceleration while I wait to afford that performance twin turbo engine.

also, anyone know where I can buy differentials, other than ebay?

You can purchase rear ends from various company's. Such as Mid America, Ecklers, Paragon Reproductions, Contemporary Corvette.
And if anyone else would like to chime in and add to the list, fire away. Most places do have a core charge. So if you don't have one to exchange, be prepared to spend some extra cash.
As far as size of the rear end. A vette rear end is specific to a vette. Not like many other GM cars that had 2 or 3 different applications for one type of car.
I believe that 63-79 were all the same housing size. Correct me if I'm wrong though. 80-82 were different and will not fit your 77.

If you're going to do a swap, I've heard that for some reason, the later years were more prone to failure.

If I'm not mistaken, the H/D diffs had larger stub axles w/ u-joint caps & bolts, compared to std. stubs w/u-bolts & nuts. |idea| |headscratch| |wavey|

Adam's Apple is correct.

I called a local Corvette shop to find an answer. And the owner Larry was very helpful.
Regular duty (Smallblock) rear ends had U-Bolts w/nuts.
H-D (Bigblock) had cast iron caps with bolts.
The side yoke spline diameters and rear ends were identical between the two.
Hope this helps.
