My TH350 is starting to give me problems.  Losing fluid, hard shifting, etc.  I'm not really happy with the high engine RPM's with the current setup and am leaning towards replacing the 350TH with a 200R4, 4 speed automatic.  I have done some research and the 200R4 is exactly the same size as the 350TH with the exception of the transmission mount.  Having stuffed various Big-Blocks in Vegas and Monzas in the past, I feel confident that fabrication of a new mount will not be an issue.  I digress.

Has anyone done this swap that can steer me in the right direction?

I thought the 200r4 was a direct fit replacing the THM 350. Meaning not having to change or move crossmember. Using the 700r4 the member would have to be changed. Now I am confused

Either unit (2004R or 700) will need some mods to the crossmember to fit correctly. Also, both need a TV cable to the carb, along with the associated bracketry.
The only thing that will "bolt in" where a 350 is with no mods is another 350!
A lot of guys are running the 2004R, and a lot are running the 700. Personally, I would opt for the 700, even with the extra mods needed. My 2c.

Well I started with the 200r as a freebie, just going through it now while I have it out. I got it mixed up the overall dimension is the same 350/200r4

Vette(s): 1975 C3 Red, T-Tops, Black Interior. All I need is time and money! Getting there!

In stock form, the 700 is a bit stronger.  But the modified 200 can take quite a beating.  Some of them can now handle 500 or more HP.

There is less mods required for the 200 than the 700, but the stock 700 is stronger.

Just looking to squeeze some mileage out of the 77 L48. There are a few up grades for the 200r. The 73 383 likes the tremec 5 spd and so does the wallet.

Well, the 200 is now installed in my 79' and all I can say is WOW.  What a difference.  I purchased the wiring and switch kit from Bow-Tie Overdrives and installed it myself.  I then pulled the old 350 and swapped the shift cable bracket (had to cut it and shorten it up to fit the 200 pan bolts), and bend the actual shift lever that bolts to the transmission shaft.  The 200 is exactly the same size as the 350.  The rear crossmember was close, but not quite a bolt in.  I modified the 200 transmission mount by drilling a hole in the center of the bracket to match up with the 350 crossmember, and SHAZAM, it was installed.  Just a matter of adjusting the shift cable with the stock 350 shifter and I was ready for a road test.  It works beautifully except I cannot shift into 1st gear.  In drive it shifts all four gears perfectly, and downshifts just as it's supposed to.  Again, the only drawback is that the 3 speed shifter does not allow me to manually shift into 1st gear.
I would reccomend it to anyone.
The internal modifications are very well defined in Bowtie Overdrives instructions.
I also needed the throttle cable bracketry from TCI that positions the TV cable properly and adapts my Holley carburator to the GM TV cable.
A worthy swap.

Did you get the detent plate from BTO. I got everything from them and mine works great.  I can use first if needed. I had to modify the nuetral safety switch to get the backup lights and start points right. I did have to make my own steering lock cable mount to fit the trans pan. It is the best mod I have done to my car for sure. http://hometown.aol.com/bmclau5079/page4.html
