I have a 80 corvette it has a four speed transmission. How can I find out what model it is? I can not find numbers on it.   not for sure if it is a muncie or borg warner   it should have numbers somewhere.

If it is original it will be a BW Super T-10. They stopped using Muncie's after the 1974 model year.

Yep, "Case75" is correct. BW Super T10.

I just wanted to add that it won't handle a lot of power especially with sticky tires. Don't ask me how I know. EmbarrassedLOL

Here is a list of the different T10's.
I believe our cars had the "Y" code not the "CC" code.

I split mine like an egg in my driveway trying to piss off my neighbor. That was a $1500 burnout. I bought a brand new T10  "S" code. the car was a dog off the line. Later on I did a Keisler 5 speed conversion. Much better than the T10.

My engine was only putting out 340-350hp with 380 ft.lbs. torque.

Part No. Description 1st 2nd 3rd 4th Rev. Torque

1304000070 2.43 “S” Ratio 2.43 1.61 1.23 1.00 2.35 375 Ft. Lbs.

1304000069 2.64 “W” Ratio 2.64 1.75 1.34 1.00 2.55 325 Ft. Lbs.

7021090 2.64 “X” Ratio 2.64 1.60 1.23 1.00 2.55 325 Ft. Lbs.

1304000072 2.88 “CC” Ratio 2.88 1.91 1.33 1.00 2.78 300 Ft. Lbs.

1304000062 2.88 “Y” Ratio 2.88 1.74 1.33 1.00 2.78 300 Ft. Lbs.

1304000071 3.42 “Z” Ratio 3.42 2.28 1.46 1.00 3.51 286 Ft. Lbs.

I had some information somewhere on how to tell the first gear ratio in a T-10 from the number of grooves on the input shaft but can't find it right now. A Google search would probably tell you.

can anyone answer this question?  I want to put a hurst shifter on my 80 vette. all the shifters I have found stop at 1979.  Why wont the fit the 80 ? did they do something different to the transmission?

Not 100% sure, but I believe the crossmembers were different on the '80-'81 cars, and since the shifter bolts to the crossmember , that may be the difference...

That used to be true, but....replacement shafts may or may not also have the ID grooves, so if the shaft has ever been replaced, or the trans is a replacement trans, you'll never know unless you count the gear teeth. The ID grooves were ONLY really used for ID on original builds, to make it easier for the assembly line workers to ID them quickly at a glance. Thumbs Up
