I ran across this while looking for sumpthin else, but I thought it was pretty informative, and gives some really basic, no-nonsense info on the 700 trans, and swapping into earlier cars. Just thought I would put it out there for youse guys to takes a gander at...enjoy.

Thanks, Joel! I think that's about the most exhaustive info on this transmission that I've seen--very informative and makes me wanna get one!

(But meantime...when are we going to see that exhaustive report on rebuilding a TH 350--??)

Vette(s): 1981 - 59 Beige over Cinnebar leather. Edlebrock top end, 2200 stall w/shift kit, 3:55s, Mufflex maniback exhaust, nice stereo, 16 in AREs w/BFGs
I found this article a little deceptive.  They said line 1 they would install a 700 for 1044.00 icl the trans, then they said they will do it for 1995.   Are there any guys here who put a 700 inplace of a 350?  I'd love to here the real cost in dollars and misery.  Thanks!

They are quoting different prices for a "stock" rebuild, vs. for the HP("Raptor") trans. The HP unit has more neat stuff in it.

I did mine 3 yrs. ago evrything including new cross member total cost about $1,300.00 and I love it. Did all the work myself in my garage in two weekends. It can be done. Biggest problem was the drive shaft yoke, had to send away for one. But no big deal.doh

Later cars with the 350 or 350C(lock-up) trans will not have this problem. The 350 and the 700 tailshaft is the same size, spline-wise, so ya'll can use the same yoke.

I installed a 200-4R in place of the Th400. The best mod I have done yet. I think it cost me about $1700 for everything but I did the install. I bought it from Bowtieoverdrives so it is fixed up some.

So, Joel.  The '80 shouldn't have any issues with the tailpiece?  I'll most likely do this mod in '08, but ya never know!

The '80 350 YOKE will fit the 700 trans with no mods, yes.
