I can get my hands on a 700R4 reasonable in the crate locally, besides the cross member, TV cable, internal wiring and drive shaft mod, what else will I need to do to make it work?

Time to save some Gas... I reckon I can at least double my mileage with OD. I also figure it's not going to be as difficult as some other things I've dealt with of late...

Hey Jim, what rear gears do you have? Remember the 700R4 has 3.03(about) first gear so if your rear is more than 3.55:1 you may not like it.
I have 3.55's in mine and it goes thru first in a heartbeat. Just my thoughts.

You'll need a filler tube/dipstick, which you can get from GM if you order one for an '82 'Vette.

You'll need a bracket and adapter linkage for the T.V. cable to work with whatever carb you have.

You don't really need any wiring, internal or external. The 700 can be made to have Lock-Up hydraulically, or, you can set it up to have LU in 4th gear only...the problem with that particular set-up is, the LU comes on immediately on top of the 3-4 shift, and it can bog it down.

You'll need the correct bracket for the shift cable, which again can be for an '82 'Vette.

You'll need a shifter mod, if you want to have a manual low gear.

You'll need a torque converter, if the trans does not come with one.

You'll need to determine what speed-o gears you have now, and get some that will work with the 700, and still read correctly.

Give up yet? (Just messing wid ya!)
All this sounds like way more than it really is. Almost all of this is readily available, and not that expensive.

[QUOTE=Adams' Apple]You'll need a filler tube/dipstick, which you can get from GM if you order one for an '82 'Vette.   Working on it !

You'll need a bracket and adapter linkage for the T.V. cable to work with whatever carb you have.    Got it !

You don't really need any wiring, internal or external. You'll need the correct bracket for the shift cable, which again can be for an '82 'Vette.  Got it sitting in my kitchen

You'll need a shifter mod, if you want to have a manual low gear.  Got it sitting in my kitchen

You'll need a torque converter, if the trans does not come with one. Suggestion?

You'll need to determine what speed-o gears you have now, and get some that will work with the 700, and still read correctly.  Never had to figure this one out...where do I start.
