So i'm rebuilding the entire chassi on this car as it has 100k miles with zero rust and perfect body/ frame.
I'm having a hell of a time finding a company for heavy duty half shafts and a 3.90 differential.
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Thats not a good ratio for the 700R4 trans, which has a 3.08:1 first gear.
Also the 3.90:1 gears won't fit in the stock rear end housing.
3.55:1 gears are great for an '82 and other than changing the speedo gear there's no custom work needed.
But of course, you're free to do what ever you want, it's your car, have fun with it and good luck, you can always get help here.

Ryan,
Welcome to the site. Always glad to see another '82.
You will find a lot of good information here.
You can use the search button to find information already posted.
Sounds like you are planning to build it for more HP and quick out of the hole.
You will find many who have done that and will be happy to share their experiences.
We also have some great sponsors that will help you with your project.
Best of luck to you.

Thanks for the replies. So its looks like the 3.90 is actually a 3.92 that fits. I actually got ahold of the cars previous owner b4 who i purchased it from. He told me the car has a 4.11 in it already and has only about 5k miles on it sense he did the mod. Not really what i wanted but hey it saves me a grand or so. Thanks again. ryanmalicki 2009-01-04 08:51:41
