I'm still looking for a phantom noise and have about narrowed it down to the transmission mount. Mine has less than 1/4 inch of greasy, mushy rubber showing, so I think I'm getting some metal-to-metal noises. Anyway, I bought a new one since they are cheap, but I can't see how to get the upper bolts out - the ones that go through the mount plate into the transmission housing. I hope I don't have to remove the crossmember (bolted, whew). Is it possible to move the transmission up high enough once the two lower bolts are removed to allow access to the upper bolts? Any hints here would be greatly appreciated. It's so hot and sticky, I didn't want to get started on somthing too big until things cool down a bit. Thanks

Craig, with the two lower bolts out, you may be able to raise it enough to get to the trans bolts, but I doubt they will come all the way out. If they don't, just remove the crossmember bolts, with a jack under the trans. Then you can drop the crossmember down far enough to get to the bolts. You don't have to un-do the e-brake cable or anything, just the crossmember bolts.

Thanks. I had a feeling I'd have to get the crossmember out of the way, but it probably won't be such a big job after all, since I have no rust on anything. The car has had just the perfect amount of oil leakage over the years to keep things well misted and rust free. Just a bit grubby.
