Has anyone considered using one,or is/are using one? Are the benefits worth the switch?

GM has used an 'luminum shaft in the 'Vette since '84, with good results. A lot of other brand vehicles have them too. Less weight, more durable. The biggest disadvantage is the size. They are normally quite a bit larger in diameter the the steel shafts.
I have a buddy in the local 'Vette club here with a monster '69 vert, big-block, 5-speed, with an 'luminum shaft. So far, it's about the only thing he ain't tore up!
As far as "Is it worth it?", probably not for a driver, but for a hot streeter, maybe.

I'm kinda slowly heading towards "hot streeter",but its a loooong way off.saved weight already by going with composite springs, etc.I didnt realize that aluminium driveshafts were significantly larger than the heavier steel ones
