One more tip dont do just 1 axle,as long as youve got it up in the air ,do them both, there is a couple of more months till cruising time,if you wait till later to do the other one, thats when it will go,

Contrail, Flandy here, I was going to suggest you contacy Zip Prod. in VA. See what they would charge you to rebuild your t-arms. I redid my two a couple years ago and bought all of the disassembly and reassembly tools. 700 bucks later I have started my own business, Shark Suspension basically rebuilding t-arms to like new specs. Contact me if you want to send them to me, I'd glad to get them back to like new condition for you. I offer a 3 year warranty on all the arms I redo. If you have any questions give me an e-mail. Flandy

Gee, ya'll are just full of good news...

This has to be a weekend or Spring Break project for me, because my Vette is a daily driver (one of the benefits of living down south). That and I take a lot of pride in "fixin' it meself". I have access to a setup tool and an installation tool also, so no worries about that. Everything was in fairly good shape , just a little too much end play and no parking brakes. I really think I can handle it, but I will think a little more before I dive into the job.

Contrail, I'm with you on the pride in fixing it thing. I know how you feel. One more tip, place your spindles in the deep freezer overnight before going for final assembly. Take them out of the freezer only when you are ready, and the press fit will go a lot easier. |thumb|

I bought a shock mount tool when I had my trailing arms rebuilt. The shock mounts came right out with no problem. When I got the trailing arms back, I aligned them up and tapped them in place with a hammer. I don't see why couldn't use a large brass punch, but you thread the shock mount tool on and pound on it. Only takes one hand! Good Luck! You Can Do It!!!! |thumb|

Ok, I feel really stupid...

We replaced the u-joint on the pass. side, and while we were there, pulled the cotter pins on both spindle nuts and checked the torque. Needless to say, after torqueing them to specs, endplay was within spec, .004 on the pass side, ,005 on the drivers side. D'oh! |withstupid|

Oh Boy! This is all good news! |cussing|
I was able to get my shock mount off and now I'm eyeing the spindle. I'm going to buy the tools since I'm sure I'll be doing this again on my 66 soon. I don't think I can handle the frustration you all have presented!! |hammer|

--Eric in PA. Anyone close that already has these tools I can borrow?

The best investment in tools --ever!! Both spindles pressed right out and went right back in. All cleaned up and soon to be ready to roll!! |smokin|
