Hello everyone!
I have a stock '79 with a TH350 and the VERY lame L48. Someday, I'm going to replace the L48 w/ a 383 stroker. Before I do though, I want to swap the TH350 for either a 700R4 or a 200R4. The only company I'm aware of that offers most (or all) of the necessary components is BowTie Overdrives.
Does anyone have any experience w/ this swap, or with BowTie O/D in particular? I saw some postings on a hotrodders forum which seemed to say BowTie Overdrives was NOT very helpful once the sale was made. Are there other sources for the pieces necessary to complete this swap? Which is "better", the 700 or the 200? I'm not very concerned w/ keeping the car original.
Any advice or recomendations are much appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

I had a local gentleman swap my th350 for a beefed up 700r4. The mount was modified and the drive shaft shortend and balanced. He also changed the 3.08 rear gear with 3.55 gears. Perfect combination with the 350/350 motor. That has been the best mod I have had on the vette.

I bought the crossmember and shifter conversion from Bowtie. I sourced the transmission locally. I was very impressed with Bowtie. FYI-you can't use a Corvette 700R4 with their crossmember, it is set up for a Truck, B, or F Body trans. The Vette Trans does not have the mount by the pan like the others do.

raptor transmissions makes a strong 200R4. also art carr, but he's overkill for the street. joe
