Hello Brandon!
I'm assuming your car has a TH400 tranny in it, or does it have a TH350?
If you are looking for different gear ratios in 1st,2nd,3rd gears, you are better off going through the trouble and expence of a TH700R4 tranny (as you mentioned in a earlier thread). 3spd autos have a 1.00:1 3rd gear. Anything higher than that is considered an overdrive. I don't know what the difference in 1st gear ratios between the 350 & 400 trannys are, but I do know that the 700R4 has a 3.07 or there abouts 1st gear. Way better than the 3 spd's.
And if you choose to use a 3 spd, I would use a TH400 that has been professionally built. It's a little beefier than the TH350.

Ok, fair enough, i have to agree about your logic concerning the 700r4. A q' for you then sarge. I plan on going out on monday and pricing installation cost. How much should i expect to pay for the installation? How much should i expect to pay for everything in the end?? tks

Brandon, I can only guess on the cost involved. I would guess between $1200-$2000. Maybe one of the other members that had this done would be able to give you a more accurate figure. I would first shop around for the transmission, i.e. mail order, local speed shops, etc. And then find a few different reputable shops in your area that can do the installation. This will give more of a "ballpark" figure. Sorry that I can't be of more help.

The transmission (700R4) is a variable cost. Expect to pay $500-1000 for a good used one if you can find a low mileage one. Or $75-350 or so for a core and around $800-1200 to have it rebuilt and/or upgraded. The other conversion costs are about $100 for the shifter conversion kit, $200 for a crossmember, and $100 to shorten your driveshaft. You will also need a new yoke if you have a TH400. It is a great swap. I love mine.
