Changed mine today. Took the spare and bottom half of the carrier frame down like suggested. Bought the hand pump. A fairly straight forward job. One catch for me, mine had an allen wrench head bolt. I didn't have an allen wrench large enough, so another trip to the store. Then I find out I must of had Hercules himself tighten the bolt the last time. Had to use a cheeter bar on the end of the allen wrench. Down hill after that. 



1980 L82 (5069 made), Dark Green Metalic (844 made)
Gymkhana Suspension, AM/FM/CB, Sporting a ZZ383.........

When pressed for a large allen wrench (after the parts stores are closed!) I found that the short extension from my socket set fit in just perfectly. And with the breaker bar I could apply just enough gentle pressure without having to hammer and jolt and swear (too much!).
