You can do it in the driveway, up on stands. It's not too hard, but it will take some time, unless you have small hands!

Don't have particularly small hands, but DO have a whole lot of time--so

Thanks for posting the question. My '78 has the same "CLUNK". I'll check the bushing next time I get it on a lift. Maybe I can worry less now... It has been doing it for years... I have been waiting for the rear end to crap out, maybe that is why it never gets worse.

Do, any of you feal a lowering of the car when you shift into drive I also have the clunk that is what mine is doing
i HAVE BEEN TOLD THIS IS NORMAL ON VETTE AUTO TRANS.
i HAVE HAD EVERY SINGLE BUSHING/ U JOINT, BEARINGS, REPLACED IN THE DRIVE TRAIN. RE-BUILT THE REAREND AND TRANSMISSION AND TRAILING ARMS AND STILL HAVE A CLUNK WHEN SHIFTING TO DRIVE.
