You can do it in the driveway, up on stands. It's not too hard, but it will take some time, unless you have small hands!

Thanks for the reassuring confirmation, Joel.

Don't have particularly small hands, but DO have a whole lot of time--so
I'll go ahead and try to tackle this job, along with all the others that are
rapidly piling up with this car.

Good luck with yours too, Jotto,,,hope there'll soon be two non-clunking
Corvettes on either side of the Atlantic!

Thanks for posting the question. My '78 has the same "CLUNK". I'll check the bushing next time I get it on a lift. Maybe I can worry less now... It has been doing it for years... I have been waiting for the rear end to crap out, maybe that is why it never gets worse.

         Do, any of you feal a lowering of the car when you shift into drive I also have the clunk that is what mine is doing

that is normal,they all do it,the suspension is "Loading Up"as long as it comes back up when you take it back out of D,into Neutral or Park

i HAVE BEEN TOLD THIS IS NORMAL ON VETTE AUTO TRANS.

i HAVE HAD EVERY SINGLE BUSHING/ U JOINT, BEARINGS, REPLACED IN THE DRIVE TRAIN. RE-BUILT THE REAREND AND TRANSMISSION AND TRAILING ARMS AND STILL HAVE A CLUNK WHEN SHIFTING TO DRIVE.

The clunk in mine turned out to be U joints. Found out after I changed the bushing.
