Topic: clutch cross shaft

Hey guys,
Got an ignoramus-type question on a 4 spd tranny....There is a grease fitting located in the middle of the cross shaft. Do I pump grease into it until it squirts out each end? Seems odd (to me ,anyway) that you have to fill a hollow tube before it reaches it's intended target. Oh, well, what do I know, if I still have questions like this.
yeah you fill it.. not that it reasonably needs to be filled... but what are your other options ?
Thank you, Sir!

The wierd thing is, I just rebuilt my cross shaft. In the AIM it calls for a "plug"
In my copy, grease fittings are called grease fittings.

May times in older cars there was a plug instead of a grease fitting. Very common across all mfgs. You had two choices. Remove the plug and install a fitting, grease the component, and replace the plug. Or just leave the fitting in place. Most of the time the fittings were left installed.
The manufactures had a special tool to install when greasing the components. It attached to the grease gun, and screwed into the threaded hole, and no grease fitting was used. Yes, I did use the tool when I worked at Chevrolet. But only a few times. It was a pain in the rear (mine not the cars). It was far easier to install the fittings and leave them there. The labor saving the second time it was greased paid for the cost of the fittings.
