I checked my detent switch to see if it's working, it does but not until it is fully depressed. My problem is my throttle does not have enough travel to depress it all the way. I tried one of joel's tricks of putting a piece of hose over it but it still does not get there. There is no adjustment that I can see to move it closer to the throttle. In my manuel it says it adjusts it self automatically. Does anybody have any Idea's?

Thanks
Lonnie

The detent switch should have its plunger fully depressed this will pre set the switch, do you have the tabs that you can squeeze to move the cable? or a small hole to put a paper clip in to release?

No cable on this one, John, it's a 400, electric kickdown. The switch is just above the accelerator pedal. Nor does the accel cable have any adjustments...
Lonnie, how far away from the switch pin is the pedal arm? Maybe a larger diameter hose?
I don't know of any adjustments on the switch itself, as it screws directly to the pedal bracket, with no slots for adjustment.
If you floor the pedal from the inside, does it fully open the carb?

I have the throttle cable so the carb is fully open when the pedal is floored. The bracket makes contact but it does not depress the switch completly, about 1/2 . When I check the switch with my tester, it makes the circuit after about 3/4 of its travel. I'll try a larger piece of hose or maybe attach a little block or something. Do you think a new switch would be differant. This looks like the original. And what are they talking about when the book says it adjusts automatically.

Thanks
Lonnie

Dats a good question...I may have to get one out and see...

btw...the pedal arm should make contact, or should I say full contact, at 3/4 throttle, so that part(the switch itself) is good...we just gotta figure out why the arm isn't pushing on it far enough to accomplish that...Adams' Apple2008-11-13 07:52:03

When I bought My 77 there was no kickdown and no wirering(I beleive not the original trans) I bought the switch and installed it. the problem is when I push the gas pedal to the floor the switch goes overcenter and no longer can be acuated. I would like to fix this ,seems to be the right time. here is a picture of the sw installed http://www.C3VR.com/member_pages/4201_4300/4221/Kick-Down-Switch.jpg It may help others

Yours looks just like my 72. There is no adjustment that I know of. My shop manuel mentions that it is self adjusting. I think Joel was trying to find out something about that.
