Any tips on removing the old seal and installing the new seal?
I assume if there are deep scratches or nicks on the pinion shaft where the seal rides, that needs to be fixed before installing the new seal.
Can that be done without removing the pinion?

[/QUOTE] I'm thinking that may be why a lot of people suggest installing the new seal 1/8" away from the housing instead of tight.
Read your other thread, 80-82s are harder to do in the car because the pinion snubber bracket is not removable making access harder. I've read suggestions elsewhere that it's easier to remove the rearend
