Sirs,

I am a 1979 Coupe, I recently underwent plastic surgery to repair skin cancer. Though I look better, my heart feels weak so I may require a transplant of a ZZ4 or 383 Stroker artificial heart.  Since I will be on life support, I'm asking the surgeon to consider transplanting my transmission to something from Bowtie Overdrives for example.

Since I'm undergoing such a complicated procedure, I'd like to know what all is involved in doing this besides the actual transmission. I realize I probably will need my driveshaft shortened.

I guess what I'm asking for is a second, third, fourth, etc. opinion.

 Thanks !

Jim, as far as I know, you can get everything you need to install a 700 from an '82 "donor", except the driveshaft.(The shaft is different due to the newer style diff in the '82.)

Or...you can get it from BTO, or one of the other places that market this particular changeover. I haven't used any of their stuff, so I couldn't comment one way or the other on how good it is.

I think you would probably like the setup, tho, just to have the extra gear on top, and a deeper gear on bottom...best of both werlds!!

You will need, on top of the trans, crossmember, and driving shaft:

TV(throttle valve) cable.(for an '82 Vette...not a "one-size-fitz'all")

TV cable bracket for the carb/injector.

Shifter mods, if you want to have a manual "low"(or an '82 Vette shifter)

Filler tube/stick('82 Vette)

Shift cable bracket to bolt the cable to the trans.('82 Vette)

Speedo gears(so your speedo will werk)

Electric hook-up for the lock-up function, or valve body mods to make the lock-up function hydraulic.

Torque convertor. The convertor will bolt up to your existing flywheel. If you go with a stroker, they take a special flywheel, and you may need to verify the application, but I believe they do have the correct pattern(s).(I have installed a 700 in a 77 with a stroker, and there was no issue with that flywheel.)

Oh yeah...you'll need plenty of time...and aspirin...and band-aids...and....money Adams' Apple2006-10-19 19:04:11

I spoke to Bowtie OD today. They quoted me 2300.00 for a 700R4 Level 3 and everything else I need to include the crossmember.

I'll still need to get the driveshaft cut I guess.

Does this sound reasonable?
