Can anyone help on this one:

On a 1980 5-speed, posi rear, small block 350 When shifting from neutral into reverse or when engaging the clutch in first gear a pinging-clunk tales place. It is less noticeable if the clutch is feathered.

All U joints have been replaced, yokes checked, drive shaft removed several times and checked, drive shaft support bracket bushings and clutch replaced.

Any thoughts?

On my '81 ,  one of the "clunks" it made was caused by a lose/worn  spindle flange.  At the time ,  I went ahead and greased the inner bearing with one of thse grease tools for such,  and then put a new nut on and re-torqued it.  The clunk was gone !  You might want to check

If it is not the u-joints, bushings, or spindle flange loose, it is most likely a posi problem. Try sucking out some of the diff lube, and adding some posi additive. Once the new additive is in, drive the car in tight circles left/right for a few minute to distribute the additive to all of the posi clutches.
You could also have internal diff gear wear, or even internal trans wear...
I'd try the diff fluid change w/posi additive first...

It's your front differential mounting bushing. Replace it with a poly bushing and no more clunk!Thumbs%20Up

I'm thinking this is the front diff bushings...
