Getting ready to re-install my driveshaft after a complete rear end re-build.  Question - do I pre lube the splines in the yoke?  The only info I can find on this topic is conflicting - some say use a heavy duty grease, others say the grease is incompatible with the trans lube and shouldn't be used.  (I have a 4-speed)  Anyone know?  Thanks as always!

The driveshaft doesn't move in/out on these cars as it does on mere mortal cars, so lube isn't as big of a deal. A little smidge of grease won't hurt anything at all, but is not really needed. Either way is fine. You can put a little bit of engine oil on the splines, too, without any problems....it's really a non-issue.....the splines will get lubed while driving, anyway. 

Thanks for the prompt reply.  "while I was under there" (those dreaded words!)  I decided to rebuild my shifter.  I had a kit already from Zip so....  anyway upon getting the shifter out, I noticed there is a set screw or stop screw in the shifter mounting bracket, I think it adjusts the amount of sideway travel of the shifter handle when shifting to reverse. Anyway, Bubba welded this on my car so it can't move, should I be concerned and find a new housing or just put it back together and hope the "fixed" adjustment will still work after the rebuild?  PS none of the manuals, AIM or even Corvette Magazine 4 speed shifter rebuild articles mention this adjustable crew??

Not ringin a bell with me...I'll look and see can I find some info. Off hand, I don't think it will be a problem re-using the shifter as is. 

No, say it can't be!  Joel did not have an immediate answer!  Probably because of the poor description of the issue on my part.  Here is a pic of the part I was talking about with the set screw which I think limits the amount you can push the shifter to the side when selecting reverse????  Anyway  Bubba welded this screw on my part so no adjustment is possible unless I drill it out and re-tap it, or buy a new one, hoping I don't have to do either!  Thanks.

One last question (like it's really going to be my last!)  When I disassembled the shift rod linkage, I found nylon bushings on the ends connecting to the shift levers on the transmission, similar to the ones used with the wiper door only a larger diameter.  I do not see these available at any of the parts house suppliers and I don't see them in the AIM diagram.  Have you ever seen these used?  Does anyone know where I can get replacements?  Thanks. 

If the bushings look like a little hat with a hole in the middle, you will need to replace them....they should fit up inside the holes on the shift levers on the trans. Without them, the linkage will be loose. Along with making noise, leaving them out will make it hard to shift properly. The bushings are definitely available....might even find them at your local parts house. HOWEVER....I'm not aware of any Muncie OR BW ST-10 that had bushings there originally. If your linkage has been changed, then it's possible the bushings were need. Most Hurst shifters did need them...

Thanks Joel.  I definitely have a stock shifter not a Hurst,  unless someone just changed out the linkage and not the shifter if thats possible??  Another Bubba mystery.  I'll check locally to see if I can find replacements, thanks.
