I'm still debating over whether to go with a Keisler 5spd or add a Gear Vendors overdrive unit to the BW T-10 already in the car.
Is anyone here using a GearVendors overdrive in their vette? I know many of you are using a Keisler setup with good results.
So I'm open to opinions or advice.
Fire away, I'll be listening.

Hey Sarge, I've never ridden in a car w/ the Gear Vendors overdrive. How exactly is it used? I can't imagine that it is used just like a low/high rear axle on a large truck where you would go through all the gears, then switch the axle to high and the tranny to low and go through the shift sequence a second time. I have assumed it was something more automatic, buit maybe I'm expecting too much...

Rosen(Motion Performance) did install some Hone O/D units in Shark cars in the early '70s. Not exactly a bolt-in install. Major modifications were done. The Gear Vendors set-up is no smaller than the Hone units...
My opinion , if you are determined to go standard O/D, is go with the Keisler set-up. A better all-around deal in the long run, as all of the parts needed are readily available, as well as tech help if ya run into a problem. Plus, you have the option of choosing the ratios you want.

Hey Sarge, as you know i have a 5 speed Kiesler in my 78... i too pondered on the overdrive unit before getting the 5 speed... and, kinda have to agree with Joel that there would be some issues fitting it underneath... even if i had to do it over again, think i've have to go with the 5 speed. There was very little i had to "modify" getting it in(being a welded in crossmember, had to cut it) though i recall you saying yours is a bolt in member, soo, at least thats not a problem... it uses a stock bell housing, soo, the T-10 bell will work... only other thing is the drive shaft, it will have to be shortened, and by all means if you do get the Keisler(Tremmec) tranny, be sure to get the yoke with the U-joint straps, not the supplied yoke that has the press in U-joint caps... good luck..
Sarge, the 5 speed is the way to go, I m so happy with mine, and it came with everything I needed, cross member and drive shaft. The fuel savings round trip to PF paid for half the unit.. I would do it all over again..Terry

Thanks for the feedback guy's. I valu your opinions and info.
Looks like the Keisler is the best bet here.
Joel, that is interesting bit of info about the Motion vettes with a Hone O/D.

I have an old book with quite a bit of Motion info.
It does have a couple of pics of the unit installed, as well as a listing of most of the mods required. Seems like the actual driveshaft was only a few inches long, if I remember right!
I think you'll be much happier with the Tremec/Keisler set-up.
The Gear-Vendors deal is really more for motorhomes and such anymore, due to the size...
