Vette(s): 1975 convertible, with the hard top and power streering.it a 350 L48 with auto trans. the color is light blue.
I got the car up on stands and I am getting ready to change the u-joints.However while I have the shafts off the car I want to sand blast and paint them.I am going to tag them left and right so they go back on the same side they came off. What I am wondering is dose it matter witch side the u-jionts go (incase I turn them around while basting.)or should I mark these too?

Makes no difference...the shafts are symmetrical, so they'll fit/work on either side. Same with the end-end on the u-joints...they'll work either way.

I just had the pleasure of replacing a u joint on the passenger side half shaft.  Getting the shaft off is the easy part, getting the u joints off is the Censored (dirty racka frats)!!

I got the car up on stands , so tomorrow I plan on taking the half shafts off, then change the bent sturtOuch.when I go in on my nights I then will sand blast and paint them. Taking the u-joints off shouldn't be that hard of a chore because I have a press avaible to me.(I hopeWink) Oh,what color is the factory color for the half shafts?

Natural steel, with an alligator skin-like texture. You'll never find a paint that will make them look "natural". I spent almost a full week on my half-shafts, including using a torch to blue the areas around the welds, to make them look original, without using any paint, or other coatings. Mine are still natural steel, but I doused them in engine oil after heating them. I wipe a little bit of surface rust off of them every year or so, but they still look new.
Unless you're going for NCRS/Bloomington status, there is a stainless steel paint that comes pretty close to the "correct" color, but it won't have the texture of the original steel shafts.

Unless you are willing to go to the trouble Joel did, most people paint them with cast-blast gray.  And be very careful pressing out those U-joints.  It is best to support between the "ears" to keep from bending or cracking the flange.
