Vette(s): had a really nice one. sold it to a good friend. Purchased 2004 custom coupe in Feb. 2009 did not tell anyone here until August 2009. BAD I KNOW.

The vette is broke.  I was driving it this morning, stopped in front of the drive way, wife came up, we went to leave, started up, engaged clutch, heard whining, squeaying sound (like I remember a throw bearing sounding) left clutch out, engage it again, sound again, turned off car, tried to start again, nothing, keys seems to turn a long ways around in the colunm, and I can not move it out of reverse, nothing it is stuck in that gear

1) just had clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing replaced.

2) how can I get it out of gear to move it, get it up on a trailer or tow truck.

3) what is going on with ingition, seem like the tumblers are gone, would that prevent it for getting out of gear, it is parked on the street in front of my house would like to move it tonight.

please help

thanks

Larry, the only way to get it out of rev. is to get under it, and unhook the cable attatched to the rearmost shift lever of the trans. Then you should be able to move the shifter into the other gears, and neutral. One of the problems you seem to have, is the key is not releasing. The start/shifter interlock is designed to keep you from removing the key unless the trans is in reverse. It also keeps you from moving the shifter out of reverse until the key is in the "on/start" position. This is accomplished by the use of the cable, which ties the shift linkage on the trans to the column. You might be able to get to this cable from under the hood, where it attatches to the bottom of the column. This should at least allow you to move the car out of the street.
It also sounds like there is some other problem, as far as the noise. If the noise is only there when you mash the clutch pedal down, it is very likely a throw-out bearing, or the bearing is not properly positioned on the fork.
It is possible that both of these problems are not related, but just chose the same time to appear.

A good bet on the ign. key cyl. problem would be that the end that fits into the "rack" in the column has twisted off, and the key is not actually turning anything but the tumblers. You would need to remove the steering wheel assy., and get the key cylinder out to verify, and then replace the cyl.Adams' Apple38879.8137615741

Vette(s): Frederick County Corvette Club (Maryland) Tan 64 365 Hp Conv 4 sp Red 72 4 sp Conv ..running a '68 327 Blue 76 Coupe L 48 4 sp White 79 Coupe L 82 auto Silver 98 Conv, 6 sp 35th Anniv '88 vette

This happened to me once...(not sure about the key rotating 180 degrees however) it was many years go... Pulled up to the gate  and
could NOT turn the Car off ..Could not put it in Neutral... WTF !!!

Ended up just stalling it and boy I was lucky it stalled...!

The entire problem was that the wire from the linkage just below the master cylinder ( to the  firewall had come loose..)    All I had to do was reconnect that wire and secure it and I have not had the problem ever again...

Wish I could remember more BUt like I said it was at least 5 years ago maybe as long as 10 years...

Sorry to hear that news Larry!   I have a good positive feeling that your "baby" will be fixed and we'll see ya in PF.  You might need to go to the ER if your head gets worse, at least get it checked out to make sure your ok.
