Vette(s): 1978 vette with an 80-82 stlye rear end molded in. BW six speed & an L82... for now. Lowered with VBP springs and bilsteins. Polished torq thrust wheels. New paint, audio system, aluminum radiator... Flowmaster and extreme flow exhaust components.
I have an auto right now and I've been collecting parts for a manual swap. I recently learned that a T56 from an F-Body will bolt to my engine, if I'm mistaken in this belief, please let me know! It uses the 26 spline 1 1/8th inch input shaft, same as 70's 4 speeds and the 27 spline slip yoke, same as the TH350, thank you chevy! My problems deal mainly with the clutch and flywheel etc. I realize that I will have to use the hydraulic clutch setup from a 93-97 f-body, unless I buy the retro-fit kit, which is too expenive. My question to you, and forgive my lack of knowledge on the subject, will an F-body hydraulic style clutch plate work with an older style flywheel? If not will a 93-97 F-body flywhel bolt to the back of my 350? Also how many teeth are there on C3 flywheels? How many are there on modern F-body flywheels? One last thing, the old style bellhousing is about 1/2 inch deeper than the bellhousing on a modern T56. Will this cause problems aswell? Thanks for any info that you may have. -Adam

I certainly don't have the answers for you, but if you can't get them hear I would say call Center Force. I bet they would have the answers.

Thanks! Hey, even if no one know one knows all of the answers it would still be great if someone could tell me how many teeth are on a '78 flywheel. Thanks again -Adam

This is all I know, admittedly I am not up to speed on newer motors/trannys:
Flywheel is different (one piece rear seal vs your two piece seal).
1/2" longer bell housing is a non-starter, try to get the FB bell housing. I think the clutch slave cyl bolts to it anyway.
Check that there is room for the clutch master cyl on the firewall, and something metal to bolt it to.
I think you have to re-think this.

i dont recall which one right off had but there is a 5 speed that uses a manual clutch and is a better fit than the t-56 and is supposedly a much easier conversion
oops
