I read that article and did some research on them and apparently they cant be trusted to get work done.. but they do supply good transmissions..
right now ive leaning towards using forte... as michael pell has been helpful and doesnt seem to have a bad rep..
I can get the tranny, speedo adapter, slip yoke, and clutch from him pretty cheap.
my only problem now is going to be the shifter... i am hoping keisler will sell me their 19.5" 2" offset shifter for the aftermarket t56..
if they wont.. then i will be fabricating one.
Ive been wanting to fire up the welder for something anyway. Im so rusty... It may take me a few attempts to get it right... but i am going to have a stock muncie shifter position no matter what.
since i will be doing the work my self I dont expect to have a horror story like in that article.. but I will be fully documenting the project so some poor sap who comes along later will be able to same themselves some frustration.

nope he doesnt have the offset shifter...
if he did.. this would be a done deal...

and keisler wont tell me if they have the offset shifter for the aftermarket t56..
they apparently have a tough time answering question when they are asked in english.

I sent this email on Jun 15th and still have not received a response.
>>> Ben, If you read the other sites out there, you will get confused because no one else has a correct fit application other than Keisler. Like all of our kits, we spend the R&D to properly develop a kit that kits. Our 5-speed does not have any cutting. Our 6-speed for your car doesn't require any cutting to the floor, but does require modification to the crossmember for proper fitment. I'll attach both flyers.
yes but your webpage and the flier you sent me both say floor mods required..
i dont mind making a new crossmember or finding one in a junk yard and modifyng it... but I dont want to modify the floor pan.. once its done it cant be undone..
is this floor pan hole required of the 650hp and not the 475hp??
all the articles ive seen where no floor pan mods were required have been with aftermarket t-56's which i what i guess your 475hp model is....
does the 475 hp have the shifter in the right location ? (m-21 location in 69 vette)
ditto for july 16th

I finally talked with keisler today. They are 13 weeks behind. They DO NOT have a correct position shifter for the aftermarket t-56.
so the options are get the viper t56 requiring floor pan cuts and using less than optimal gear ratio
or get after market and move the shifter.
neither one of these will let me make this a reversible mod so Im giving up on the 6spd
if my numbers didnt match id change to the t56 in a heartbeat. as it stands now.. i cant do it.
also the 2K less in price helps too.
and going with a tko-600 5spd instead.
gear ratios are roughly the same 1st =2.87 5th=0.64
ill probably swap it out before the rear end and see how i like it at 3.36... it would give me a 9.6 launch and a 1874 rpm at 70 which i think may be too low.. so ill probably wind up going to 3.70 gears.
my m-21 isnt shifting very well reverse lockout is sticking and it wont hardly get into 1st. looks like this project just moved up..
depending on what I hear from mjpell at forte's / 5speedtransmission.com I may order monday.
